FRIENDLY WORKPLACE AWARD
Columbia, S.C. - On Monday, September
19, the City of Greenville will be presented the 2005 SC Family
Friendly Workplace Award in the government category for consistent
demonstration of family friendly practices through workplace
programs and policies. The award will be presented by Susan
DeVenny, Director of SC First Steps to School Readiness on:
Monday, September 19 at 5:30pm
At the Greenville City Council Meeting
Greenville City Hall, 10th Floor

The City of Greenville developed an Early Childhood Strategic
Plan with the vision that “all children in the City
of Greenville will enter school healthy and ready to succeed,
and families will have the support and resources they need
to promote positive early childhood development and balance
the demands of work and family.” One of the strategic
goals of the plan is to: “increase the number of employees
in Greenville whose employers offer family friendly policies
and practices.” Specific practices include:
- Maintaining a full-time occupational nurse and medical
assistance on staff;
- Supporting health initiatives like the “Greater
Greenville Shrinkdown” and “Greenville Walks";
and
- Providing all expectant mothers with a parenting guidebook
called “Understanding Children” and other materials
from United Way’s Success By 6 initiative, and added
a lactation room based on requests from a Work-Life Balance
and Employee Wellness survey.
2005 winners in other categories include: Star Music Company,
Columbia; St. Jude Medical, Cardiac Rhythm Management Division,
Pickens; ZF Lemforder Corporation, Systems Division, Duncan;

The SC Family Friendly Workplace Award was created in 2002 to

balance. The awards are sponsored by a coalition of organizations

Committee, SC First Steps to School Readiness, SC Chamber of
Commerce, SC Department of Education, SC Department of Commerce,
