Board of Trustees

The First Steps Board of Trustees was established to oversee the First Steps to school Readiness initiative. Governor Mark Sanford chairs the Board of Trustees, and Superintendent of Education Inez Tenenbaum serves on the board. As required, the Governor, President Pro Tempore of the Senate and Speaker of the House appointed twenty additional voting members. Eleven non-voting positions for state agency and organization representatives were filled.

Each of the state's 46 counties has formed a legislatively-designed partnership board, including parents of young children, representatives of the business, faith, education, health and non-profit communities.
