Countdown to Kindergarten

Starting kindergarten is an exciting and hopeful time for families and children. South Carolina First Steps and EdVenture Children's Museum offer a nationally recognized kindergarten readiness summer program to help some of South Carolina's most at-risk children start school ready to learn.

Together, we realize the importance of school readiness for our youngest learners -- our new kindergartners -- and believe it is our job to help equip them and their parents with the best tools, tips and resources available as they prepare to enter school this August. Countdown to Kindergarten seeks to engage families, educators and community members in a statewide effort to celebrate and support the transition into kindergarten as a significant educational and developmental milestone for children and their families.

The goal of Countdown to Kindergarten is to create awareness and knowledge for parents about the importance of home activities relating to literacy and hands-on learning leading up to kindergarten. This South Carolina program instills confidence in children who are about to enter kindergarten and the world of school, and also teaches parents how to advocate for their children within the educational system.

Below you will find information about how best to prepare your child for kindergarten including book list suggestions, hands-on activities, registration requirements, and much more.
