Susan has more than 20 years of leadership and management
experience in private industry, nonprofit organizations and
education. Previously she served on the First Steps Board
of Trustees and was chair of the Fiscal Accountability and
Evaluation Committee. Susan is a former assistant vice president
of human resources at Colonial Life and Accident Insurance
Company and is the founder of Parents for Public Schools in
South Carolina. In 2003, she received the Girl Scouts S.C.
Woman of Distinction Award and the S.C. School Boards Association
Champion of Public Education Award. She is a graduate of Furman
University and the University of Georgia where she received
a master’s degree in education. Susan is the mother
of four children.
