Share the gift of reading with our state's youngest learners.
For the 2024 MLK Day of Service and throughout the week of January 15-19, First Steps staff, board members, AmeriCorps members, and volunteers will come together for a statewide read-aloud and book distribution.
There are several ways to get involved:
Volunteer to read. Share the gift of reading with our state's youngest learners! Volunteers pick the day and time that fits their schedule. Registration for volunteers will open in December.
Donate. Your gift will help send every child in a participating classroom home with a brand-new book of their own. Our partners at Usborne Books & More will match 60% of every contribution, extending your generosity even further. Donate here.
Spread the word. MLK Service projects empower individuals, strengthen communities, bridge barriers, address social problems, and move us closer to Dr. King's vision of a "beloved community." Join the movement by sharing this volunteer opportunity with others!
Our MLK Week of Service book distribution is made possible by the generous support of the Toys for Tots Literacy Program, our partners at PaperPie, and individual donors like you. Thank you!
